Molly's Muse No. 19: All About The Fourth

Happy July 1st! June just flew by, and it was a great month here on Lake Minnetonka for boating, dining out, and late nights on the deck with a crisp glass of wine. This week, I've decided to round up some holiday-themed inspirations, since one of my favorite weekends is ahead of us: 4th of July! I will be hosting some family and friends at our house, and needed to come up with some quick, easy (and cute) ideas to make our celebration memorable. And of course, I hope they can help you, too.

The Lake Sweater is a holiday staple! ($100)

I'm all about a bit of DIY to create unique and beautiful dishes and decor for any special occasion. But, I don't believe in putting too much effort into these things, as it can take away from the fun. The weekend is quickly approaching us, but no need to fret, here's some great ideas I've come up with that will top off your holiday affair! On the agenda: DIY flag cake, Simple Sangria, super sale on decor, and a 4th of July wardrobe staple!

Beautiful but Easy Dessert

The hardest part about this cake will be slicing the strawberries...so it's actually really easy. Plus, it always turns out very pretty and doubles as table decor. To make:

  1. Bake a box cake (I love dark chocolate) in either a rectangular cake pan or 2 round pans. If not serving right away, let cake chill.

  2. Top cake or cakes with whipped cream, make sure to get all the edges!

  3. Add sliced strawberries and blueberries to create desired design, I love the traditional flag design myself :)

  4. Chill until ready to serve.

EASY Sangria (it's not hard)

Serve red and white sangria with ease thanks to a little help from Williams Sonoma. These mixes are organic and lovely. I also like that you can make large batches in advance and let them chill. Just add your favorite wine and some fruit to garnish... perhaps a nice big, red strawberry. It's 33.90 for the set of 2.

Decor SALE

Sometimes last minute shopping has its perks...like everything is on sale right now at your local Michael's. (While it lasts...so maybe make a trip sooner than later). I especially love their garland, bunting flags, pillows, and door mats. It also feels good not to break the bank every once in a while :)

Fireworks Show Sweater

Stay cozy while you watch the fireworks show...not to mention keep the bugs at bay. I'm so excited to wear my new American Flag Sweater by Ellsworth & Ivey on Sunday evening. But, the Ellsworth & Ivey Lake Minnetonka Sweaters are also a great choice, and you can still get one on my shop. Head over now to get it by Sunday! I'm offering personal delivery to Lake Minnetonka residents if you need it by the weekend!!

Happy 4th of July weekend, friends! Enjoy it.

XO- Molly
